The paper begins with the division oftwo homonymous Turkish loans јп Serbo-Croatian:
boga [. "tortoise shell; something rnade of tortoise shell or similar rnaterial" and baga [. "kind
ofhurnan or horse disease". After а survey ofthe historu ofthis topic, an etumological analysis
of these words is given as well as ап inventoru of а11 undoubtedly or probably related lexemes.
Since this word-farnily is very prone to expressivisation of form and meaning, included are
such SCr. lexemes as bagar т. "Јате horse; weak horse јп general; fig. pejor. partially or
completely Јате man; disabled, weak man" and oboglamiti pf. "(of а horse) get ill from baga",
that resulted from formal and/or semantic contarnination with other, etimologically unrelated
words. |
